Capt. Christopher “Chris” Johns Clark, a skilled fisherman and captain, died unexpectedly on March 22, 2019 at the age of 40 while fishing in the Gulf of Mexico.
Capt. Chris is survived by his father, Sam Clark Jr.; his siblings, Jarod, Hunter and Rayne Clark; step-mother Heather Clark; step-siblings Jasmine, Ariana and Xavier; Grandparents Jane Shaw, Gail and Bill Pyle; and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. Chris has been reunited in Heaven with his mother, Kandy Clark (nee Shaw); and grandparents, Bill Shaw, Una and Dr. Sam Clark. Capt. Chris was born on January 8, 1979 in St. Petersburg, Florida. He graduated from Citrus High School in Inverness, Florida and attended Eckerd College. From an early age, he developed a passion for the water which turned into a career as a fishing captain. He will be remembered running skiffs on the Chassahowitzka river, captaining sportfishing yachts in Los Suenos, and winning many kingfish tournaments including the prestigious title of “King of the Beach.” A funeral service has been planned for his immediate family. On Saturday, April 6th, a Celebration of Life is scheduled from 5:00 - 9:00 p.m.at Gator’s on John’s Pass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Capt. Chris’s name to the youth fishing program at the Old Salts Fishing Foundation at PO Box 8564, Madeira Beach, FL 33738.
