Obituary

Margaret Adeline “Addie” Rogers Crone of St. Petersburg, formerly of Dunedin, passed away peacefully at home on August 18, 2018.

She was born on the family farm in Wyoming, Illinois on October 8, 1926. She attended grade school in a one room school house and graduated from Wyoming High School in 1944. She received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois in 1949 and a master’s degree from Colorado State University in 1953. She taught high school for ten years in Illinois and Indiana. She married William David Crone in 1955. They moved to Dunedin, Florida in 1959 where they were the owner operators of the Dog n’ Suds drive in restaurant for 26 years. She was involved with many community organizations including PTA, Booster Clubs, and the Dunedin Youth Guild. She was also an active member of First United Methodist Church in Dunedin and the Ruth Circle.

After retirement, Bill and Addie bought an RV and traveled the U.S. She also taught senior fitness classes at the Hale Activity Center and volunteered at the Dunedin Historical Museum. In 2011, she moved to St. Petersburg. She was featured in At Your Leisure while performing fitness exercises at the Sunshine Senior Center. She also volunteered at Clothes To Kids in St. Petersburg.

She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and volunteer. Her greatest joys were spending time with her family and her annual visits to her farm in Illinois. She was very proud to be the fourth generation to serve as an owner of the Rogers Farm established in 1856.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill in 2006. She is survived by a daughter, Janet Carroll (Mike) of St. Petersburg and a son, David Crone of Holiday, two grandchildren, Katie Carroll and Will Crone, and one great-granddaughter, Camryn Crone.

A special recognition and thank you to the caregivers from No Place Like Home Care, especially, Mary Ellen, Jane and Paula and the Silver Team at Hospice who helped Addie live comfortably in her own home for the past 14 months.

A memorial service will be held at Brett Funeral Home on Friday, August 31st at 4 pm, with a burial later this year in Wyoming, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Clothes To Kids.
