Susan Wilhelm Hands
of St. Petersburg passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 2, 2018, with many members of her loving family by her side. Sue loved life and lived it to the fullest; she especially loved being surrounded by family and friends. Sue was an accomplished Realtor, avid traveler, caring mother, grandmother and friend to many. She will be greatly missed and we take comfort knowing Sue is with the Lord.
Born in Chicago, IL to Harold and Pauline Wilhelm, Sue attended New Trier High School in Winnetka, IL and went on to graduate from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY. She married H.E. “Ted” Hands, Jr. in 1965 and has made St. Petersburg her home since 1977. Sue served her community through memberships with the Jr. League of St. Petersburg, All Children’s Hospital Guild and The Stuart Society-Museum of Fine Arts. She was also an active member with First Presbyterian Church.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents and loving husband, H.E. “Ted” Hands, Jr. Sue is survived by her son Doug (Diane) Hands, daughter, Marilyn (Ian) Twell, son Ned (Brenda) Hands, sister, Marilyn (Bud) Osborne, brother Phil (Carol) Wilhelm, grandchildren Jack, Ellie, Millie, Katie, Marissa and Shelby. Sue also leaves behind several adoring nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 27, at First Presbyterian Church, St. Petersburg. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations, in Sue’s memory, be made to 100 Shares Tampa Bay (100sharestampabay.org) or the St Petersburg Free Clinic. Links at the bottom of this page.
