Obituary

Earnest William Truby "Earnie", 69, died December 11,
2017 at Kindred Bay Area Hospital. He suffered a stroke
in 2010 but had been living at home and doing well. He
showed courage and determination in spite of his
disabilities. Earnest was born May 1, 1948 in Miami, Florida.
Although he grew up in Ohio, his family returned to Florida
and Earnest graduated from Ft. Myers High School. He
earned a BS degree from Florida Southern College •
followed by a PhD in Marine Biology from University of
South Florida. Earnest worked for Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation
Commission for 36 years. He headed the electron
microscope laboratory and later co-ordinated a state-wide
red-tide monitoring program. His former laboratory has
been re-named in his honor. He was a meticulous
researcher and willingly shared his knowledge with others.
He was a longtime member of St Andrew Lutheran Church-
where he served on the Church council, taught
confirmation classes and ushered. He enjoyed art and
was a member of the Museum of Fine Arts for forty years.
Earnest also enjoyed traveling in Europe and classical
music. He loved animals. With his wife he regularly
participated in Voices of Hope for Aphasia at the Sunshine
Center. He is survived by his wife of 48 years Sally, his cousin
Elizabeth Mallams of Tucson, Arizona and his cat Sable.
He is greatly missed by his former colleagues and
caregivers, as well as many wonderful friends and
neighbors. There will be a celebration of his life January 27, 2018 at
4:00pm at St Andrew Lutheran Church followed by a
reception at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church in the Parish
Hall. Contributions in his name will be appreciated by St
Andrew Lutheran Church, Florida Wildlife Federation,
Voices of Hope for Aphasia or Friends of Strays.
