Arthur (Art) H. Padula Jr., 69, passed peacefully in his home on September 20, 2017 under Hospice care.
Art, was born in Van Buren, Maine, but grew up in New Jersey. He graduated from Delbarton School and went on to attend Belmont Abbey College in North Carolina, where he met Marty. Over the next few years they had two daughters and moved to Florida in 1978 where they called Gulfport home.
Art became an avid and active member of Most Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church where he served as lector and on many committees. He was a volunteer Soccer Coach at the school for many years, served on the school board, and was chairman of the Oktoberfest for over 10 years, but was mostly remembered as the “King of the Beer Truck.”
Art was a devoted member of the Gulfport Lions Club for over 25 years, where he served in many capacities including secretary, house chairman, fish fry and shrimp boil chair and as club president for several terms. He also served in different areas within the district and the state and has received countless awards including one of the highest honors given to a Lion, the Melvin Jones Fellow.
Art served on several boards with the city of Gulfport and was given the Spirit of Gulfport award last fall.
In his spare time, Art was a State of Florida Certified Building Contractor and owner of Padula Development & Construction Companies.
Survived by his wife of 48 years, Margaret (Marty) Padula; daughters, Alicia Padula Clark and Heather Padula Holmes; granddaughter, Brittany Holmes and great-grandson, Jayden.
