Jack attended St. Stephen, Our Lady of Angels and St. Malachi grade schools in Cleveland. He went on to St. Ignatius High School for freshman and sophomore years. He heard the call to the Catholic Priesthood and attended Borromeo Preparatory Seminary in Baltimore, MD. where he completed high school. He proceeded on through Borromeo Minor Seminary for 2 years Philosophy. He returned to Cleveland St. Mary's Seminary to complete 4 years Theology, required for ordination to the Diocese of Cleveland. He was ordained by Archbishop Edward F. Hoban Feb 28, 1953.
Fr. Jack served as Associate Pastor of Christ the King (E. Cleveland), St. Peter's (N. Ridgeville), St. Mary's (Akron), and Holy Family (Parma). While at St. Mary's he initiated "The Search for Christian Maturity", a live-in weekend for teens. In 1972 he was appointed Director of St. Joseph Christian Life Center, the Diocesan Retreat House, where he remained until 1982.
This most significant assignment of the Bishop was the opportunity to further develop his parish spiritual renewal process known as "CHRIST RENEWS HIS PARISH" (CRHP) which he initiated while at Holy Family Parish in 1969. Jack presented CRHP as his thesis as partial fulfillment for the Master of Divinity Degree (M.Div.) which he received in 1974 from St. Mary's Major Seminary. Still very popular and successful after 46 years, CRHP has been or is being used in some 100 Catholic Dioceses and over 1300 Parishes in the US.
In 1982 Fr. Jack petitioned the Bishop to grant a leave of absence for him to become the principal caregiver and health surrogate for 3 family members: Aunt Ruth Jacoby, Aunt Elsie Jacoby and Cousin Margaret Ann (Peggy) Jacoby. He relocated all of them to St. Petersburg, Fl., where he enjoyed the priestly faculties of the Diocese for 2 years. During this time he prayerfully discerned not to return to active ministry in Cleveland.
In 1985 Jack founded "Shared Business Services, Inc.", supplying medical computer systems and training to Physician offices and clinics. He was assisted by Annette in the management and development of SBS. Jack and Annette were married in 1987 and shared their most blessed life together to the present.
Jack was an early member of "Ye Mystic Krewe of Neptune" and was named Neptunus Rex XIII in 1993. He also enjoyed life-time honorary membership in the Treasure Island Tennis and Yacht Club (now known as "The Club TI") and initiated its first website. For many years he also served as a volunteer and member of the Board of Directors of the "Science Center of St. Petersburg" where he developed the main office computer system.
A faithful and active member of the Knights of Columbus for 65 years, he was an honorary member of St. Jude the Apostle Council 14178 and the "St. Vincent de Paul Society". His current and spiritually fulfilling activity for the past 20 years was his weekly Thursday Morning Men's Prayer Group.
He will be buried from St. Jude the Apostle Cathedral where he was a parishioner for over 25 years. A wake will be held in Our Lady's Chapel at St. Jude's on Sunday, April 23, 2017 from 3-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be Monday, April 24, 2017.
