Richard P. Pfeifer, Sr. 83 of St. Petersburg, FL. passed away peacefully on December 19, 2018.

Dick was born on November 16, 1935 in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ. and was the son of the late Charles F. Pfeifer and Agnes R. Pfeifer.

Dick graduated from Hasbrouck Heights High School in 1953. During High School his athletic achievements consisted of playing four years of football, basketball and track. He was a member of the Hall of Fame 1952 group 1 New Jersey football state champions. Playing both offense and defensive end, he was selected first team All-League. In 1953 he was the New Jersey State discus champion and was undefeated. He was inducted into the Hasbrouck Heights Hall of Fame in 2015.

Dick received a four year football scholarship to Furman University in Greenville, SC.This is where he met the love of his life, Martha Ann Chapman. They were married for 60 years. During his senior year, he was selected captain of his football team and was All-Southern Conference. He graduated with a BA in political science and a minor in physical education. He worked and retired from a career in insurance claims management.

He is predeceased by his wife Martha and is survived by his sons, Richard (Brenda) Pfeifer of Orlando, FL. Rob (Alice) Pfeifer of St. Petersburg, FL. and daughter Randie Benner of St. Petersburg, FL. Five grandchildren: David Benner of Orlando, FL., Courtney (Cooper) Perdue of Orlando, FL., Christie Pfeifer of Orlando, FL., Alison (Brad) Knop of Tampa, FL. and Andrew (Elise) Pfeifer of St. Petersburg, FL. Four Great Grandchildren: Skyla Bordeau, Kaiden Harding, Chloe Perdue and William Knop.

Dick was a strong, loving and caring family man. He displayed this in different ways at various times to each of us, through his jokes, laughter and tears. The door of his heart was always open for listening and giving advice to those who inquired. He was a tower of strength and great provider and we love him so much. As we grieve this great loss, we thank you Lord for blessing our lives through his and that he is in your presence, where there is no more pain or tears. We love you and we miss you.

Services will be held at Northeast Presbyterian Church 4400 Shore Acres Blvd. N.E. St. Petersburg, FL. 33703 February 2, 2019 at 1:00PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
