Richard B. Morgan, age 90, passed away at home January 9, 2019. Born in Hartford, Connecticut to John and Margaret Ryan Morgan, he attended Syracuse University and was an Air Force veteran. Following his discharge in 1955 he settled in Ft. Lauderdale, following his dad, he began his life-long insurance career with Financial Life Insurance Company. There he met and married Joan, the love of his life. In 1973 he moved his family to Tampa and to a position at Founders Life Insurance Company, later serving as President. The family was active at Christ the King Parish and School. A sportsman, he brought the game of squash to Miami, played minor league baseball and at age 55 was ranked 18th in the world following the 50 and over AAU racket ball tournament. With 4 active children, he rarely missed their events including 6 sports. Business then moved him on to serve as President of American Defender Life in Raleigh NC then as Senior VP to Loyal American Life in Mobile, AL and Cincinnati, OH and his retirement. He was inducted into Employee Benefit Adviser, International Marketing Hall of Fame, earned the Chartered Life Underwriter designation and was a Life Office Management Associate. Following his retirement, he and Joan moved to South Pasadena closer to Joan’s work as Chancellor of the Diocese of St. Petersburg.
Preceded in death by his grandson, Blake, he is survived by Joan, his wife of 55 years, Sons: Jeff, wife Cindy; Stephen; David, wife Crickette; Daughter Kathleen, husband Josh VanDernoot, and Grandchildren: Caitlin, Caroline, John, Brody, Kolby, Skye Richard and Myles. Private services were held for the family at St. John Vianney Church. A memorial mass will be held at a later date. The family is grateful for the comfort and care provided by the orange team of Suncoast Hospice Empath Health. In lieu of flowers donations to the charity of your choice or those personally close to Richard will be gratefully received.
