MCDOWELL, Patricia Ann, “Pat”, 78, of St. Petersburg, died peacefully at home after a long battle with Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) on Monday, April 9, 2018.

Pat enjoyed spending time with family, reading thrillers, watching movies, traveling, and her cherished cats, Maggie and Molly.

Pat was born and grew up in Manchester, N.H. After high school, she worked for New England Telephone in the engineering department. She married her beloved husband of 55 years, Fred McDowell, in her early 20s. While Fred served in the United States Air Force, Pat taught swimming in Puerto Rico at Ramey Air Force base as a Red Cross instructor. They later returned to New Hampshire.

When the two had children, Pat became a stay-at-home mom. In 1978, Pat and Fred moved to Seminole, Florida with their three children. A few years later, she re-entered the workforce and was a marketing assistant with Orange State Life Insurance Company. She went on to be an administrative assistant for Lincoln Financial Advisors for more than a decade. While at Lincoln, she earned the Professional Assistant of the Year award in 2001.

One of Pat’s goals in life was to obtain a college degree. She accomplished her goal and received an Associate of Arts degree in Liberal Studies from St. Petersburg College while also working full-time. She was in her 40s.

After more than two decades in Seminole, Pat and Fred moved to and retired in St. Petersburg.

In addition to Fred, Pat is survived by her brother Hank Woolner, sons Jeff and Dan McDowell, daughter Kris Hey, their spouses, Katie McDowell, Tammy McDowell and Don Hey, and seven grandchildren: Megan McDowell, Michael McDowell, Sarah McDowell and Drew McDowell; Kaitlyn McDowell and Emily McDowell; and Adam Hey.

A funeral mass for Pat will be held at Blessed Trinity Roman Catholic Church, 1600 54th Ave S, St. Petersburg, FL 33712, at 10 a.m. on June 8. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow in the church’s reception hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) Foundation:
