Mildred Patton Whitehurst, 95, of St. Petersburg, died on Friday, September 28, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bert Whitehurst, and her brother and sisters, Vincent Patton, Lucille Tarpley, and Martha Wilson.
She was born in Pikeville, TN on May 25, 1923, and graduated from McMinn County High School in Athens. She received an Associate in Arts degree in biology from Tennessee Wesleyan College in 1946, ranked first in her class, before attending the New England Medical Center to complete her training in x-ray technology. She worked as an x-ray technologist in New Hampshire and Boston, Massachusetts for her entire career. She was married to Bert W. Whitehurst from October, 1946, until his death in November, 1988. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Rebecca Wilson of Milwaukee, WI, Sarah Belcher of Gray, TN, John Earl Tarpley, of Gatlinburg, TN, James Grayson Wilson, Jr. of Augusta, GA, and John Wilson of Mountain City, TX.
