Joan E. Bretnall passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2017. She was 85. She was born in Brooklyn, NY, and moved shortly thereafter to Yonkers where she met the love of her life, Robert (Bob) E. Bretnall, while attending Gorton High School. She worked for the Hudson River Railroad in Manhattan before marrying and embarking on life in the US Air Force, living around the world. Joan and Robert settled in St. Petersburg in 1967 with their four children. Joan enjoyed taking care of her family, putting smiles on the faces of those she came in contact with, and baking amazing cookies for everyone she knew. One could never leave her house without a full belly. She earned the title of the Best Grandma in the World. She is predeceased by her loving husband of 62 years, Bob, brother Alan Bottger, and daughter Donna Bretnall. She is survived by son Robert E. Bretnall Jr. (Annie), daughters Patti Franzese (Paul), and Sandra Bretnall, and granddaughters Alexandra, Cierra, and Juliana Franzese. She will join her husband at rest at Bay Pines National Cemetery during a private internment. A celebration of life will take place at Brett Funeral Home on November 4th from 1-3pm, with a service at 2pm.
