James “Jim” Patrick McCourt, 75 passed away peacefully on November 18th on his journey to heaven. Born in Newark and raised in Kearny, NJ. Jim and his beloved wife, Mabel, were high school sweethearts and recently celebrated their 53rd anniversary. Upon his graduation from high school, Jim joined the Navy were he was Honorman of his company. Following his Honorable Discharge in 1968, Jim attended Fairleigh Dickinson University and upon graduation took a position with Arthur Andersen, in Tampa in 1969. Jim and Mae raised two beautiful daughters. Jim was an avid sailor, a pilot and a hunter. Over a four decade career, Jim was a successful accountant, businessman and consultant. He loved to travel both by land and sea. Jim and Mae toured the country many times in their motorhome (visiting all 50 states and Canada). They crossed the Atlantic several times by boat as well. Jim was a dedicated family man he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a big part of his grandchildren's lives. He taught them about life, money and his faith. Jim was a devout Catholic. He is survived by his wife Mabel, their daughters, Patricia McCourt Duckworth, her husband Brian and their children James Patrick, Robert Wells and Courtney Elizabeth Duckworth. Shannon McCourt Carton and her husband Kevin and their four children Kevin Michael, Sean Patrick, Elizabeth Colleen and Kaitlyn Emily. His siblings Robert McCourt, Charles McCourt, his wife Arlene, his sister Kathleen Jackes and her husband Richie. Many nephews, nieces and cousins. He was preceded in his death by his parents Charles (Reds) McCourt and Anna McGuire McCourt. A Wake will be held Tuesday November 28, 2017 5-7 p.m. at Brett Funeral Home 4810 Central Avenue St. Petersburg, Fl 33711. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday November 29, 2017 10:30 a.m. at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 445 82nd Ave. St. Pete Beach at 10:30 a.m. . Internment will be at 1:30p.m. at Sarasota National Cemetery 9810 State Road 72 Sarasota, Fl 34241.
