It is with great sadness that the family is announcing the passing of Grant Bradley Ruffner, 27. Grant passed away suddenly at his home November 24, 2018. Born November 11, 1991, Grant was a St. Petersburg native, a graduate of Northside Christian High School’s Class of 2010 and then a graduate of Florida State University with a degree in Finance. He was employed by Price Waterhouse Cooper where he had just received a promotion as a Business Analyst.

All who knew Grant, knew his love of the water. Grant belonged on the water. He was a certified scuba diver at the age of 11. He learned how to drive a boat and navigate the waters before he even learned how to drive a car. Grant spent countless hours perfecting his backflip and awed everyone who ever watched him on his wakeboard. He was in his element at Palm Island and Shell’s Island Crossover, places of some of his (and our) most cherished memories.

There was not an animal or creature that Grant would not hunt, catch, or hold. The summer trips to the family farm in Ohio were the highlight of Grant’s summers. Being named Most Likely To Be The Next Crocodile Hunter in high school was a tribute to his fascination with animals. Whether he was dangling lizards off his earlobes, catching a 450 pound Goliath grouper, or wrangling a snake in the backyard, Grant was fearless in his obsession with animals. As a very small boy, Grant found a seahorse in the water behind his home. He carefully scooped it up and while showing his mom, that seahorse gave birth in Grant’s tiny little hands; what a perfect example of the oneness with nature that was Grant.

He loved life.

Grant will be remembered for so many things. He was incredibly smart. He enjoyed entertaining people. His goofy dance could always put a smile on someone’s face. He was a fierce and competitive athlete on the football field and wrestling mat. He loved a good calamari appetizer and coffee ice cream. He could solve the Rubik’s Cube in seconds. Grant was a wild mix of the Crocodile Hunter and Evel Knievel. He was always up for a challenge or a dare…and always made it look easy.

Grant loved his family and he loved his friends.

Grant is survived by his parents, Ron and Amy, siblings Mariel and Garrett and soon to be brother in law, Roman Haddick; grandparents Anne (and Keith) Ruffner and Sue (and Robert) Albright; aunts and uncles Keith & Amanda Ruffner, Diane & Ralph Grant, Debra McGinnis Love, Dana Albright Riggs; cousins Bill, Lindsay, Todd, Kaitlin, Zachary, Spencer, Erin, Kelli Jo, Tyson and many family and friends who loved him dearly.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Bridgepoint Church on Saturday, December 8th at 10:00 a.m. with a gathering immediately following at Sloppy Joes, Treasure Island. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Tranquil Shores Foundation, Madeira Beach, FL.
