Dr. Ernestine Schilling Mittermayr peacefully sailed away August 4, 2017. She was born December 7, 1924, in Vienna, Austria. She is predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Elenora Schilling, her brother, Otmar, who passed away in a military climbing accident, and her husband of 53 years, Hannes. Erni moved to Innsbruck Austria towards the end of WWII with her mother to get away from the Russians who occupied Vienna. At the end of the war, she entered the University of Innsbruck as one of very few women. She graduated with a PHD in Economics. She met Hannes Mittermayr during school. They married and had one child Markus. They both worked in the travel business and in 1956, Hannes moved from Innsbruck to St Petersburg, FL to work for Persons Landsee travel. In 1957, he was joined by Erni and Markus. In 1960, they opened their own agency, St. Petersburg Travel Center. Erni was an active, accomplished sailor, especially enjoying 50+years as part of the Salty Sisters at St. Petersburg Yacht Club, where she served in many leadership capacities, including Capitan. In 1991, she received Das Verdienstkreuz 1. Klasse - one of the highest civilian honors of the Federal Republic of Germany for her work with the Honorary Consulate of Germany in St Petersburg. She is survived by her son Markus and his wife, Susan; two grandsons, Anthony and his wife Adrian; Karl and his wife Juliet, and three great-grandchildren Ashton, Austin and Angelina. The family is grateful to Hospice for their care and compassion during her final days. Friends will be received at the Brett Funeral Home, 4810 Central Ave., Friday, August 11, 2017 from 5:30PM to 7:00PM. Funeral Mass will be Saturday, August 12th at 9:30AM at the Cathedral of St. Jude the Apostle (Our Lady's Chapel). Burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to Suncoast Hospice or SPCA.
